

Joyce Marie Wallace, 88, of Austin, Texas journeyed to be with the Lord on Friday afternoon, 19 September, 2014. She left peacefully, with family members by her side. Born in Mooreville, Texas on 27 May, 1926, Joyce met and married the love of her life, Kenneth Wallace, while completing her degree at Baylor University. Active with Kinney Avenue Baptist Church since moving to Austin in 1948, she taught Sunday School and was head of the Missionary Society. Joyce spent 17 years with the Austin Independent School District teaching middle school.
A skilled ping pong player, she routinely beat the neighborhood firemen at their own fire hall pool table. Joyce and Kenneth were a mainstay in Austin. They started the first paddle boats in Zilker Park below the spillway, owned and operated Kiddieland Park, which became Mobile Manor RV Park on Barton Springs Road. Pictures of her at Kiddieland Park remain on display at the Coldwater Apartments on Toomey Rd. In her leisure time, she enjoyed RV camping with family, playing with her dogs, and hunting in the hill country near Leakey, TX. Joyce also enjoyed playing bridge with COSMOS and FFF. A member of A.A.U.W. since 1985, she served as Austin Branch Bridge chairperson for several years.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Agnes (Gummelt) and PW Curry; her husband of 57 years Kenneth M. Wallace, Sr., and brother- in-law C.H. Wallace. She is survived by daughter Diana Marie Wallace; son Kenneth Wallace Jr. (wife Judy); and grandsons Kenneth Wallace III (wife Marissa), LCPL Alexander Wallace, USMC; and Bryan Wallace. Other survivors include brother-in-law Tom Wallace (wife Luralee), and first cousin Ken Curry.
Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 S. Congress Ave on Friday 26 September from 5:00-7:30 PM. Funeral service will be at Kinney Avenue Christian Fellowship, 1801 Kinney Ave at 10 AM Saturday 27 September followed by internment at Capital Memorial Park, Pflugerville, TX, Rev. Gordon Bergstrom and Rev. Joel Thielepape presiding.
Pallbearers will be Ken Curry, Dan Davis, Greg Dunlap, Jerry Sanchez, Kurt Simons, Bryan Wallace, and Kenneth Wallace III. Honorary pallbearers are Wally Wallace and LCPL Alexander Wallace, USMC.
