

Joye is survived by her husband of 63 years Walter E. White, Jr., her son and daughter-in-law Brian and Barbara White, her son and daughter-in-law Clark and Margaret White, five grandchildren Craig White, Ross White, Leah White, Lauren Berkebile, and Morgan McLaughlin, with two great-grandchildren Olivia Joy White and Jackson White.
Joye graduated valedictorian from her high school and received a full scholarship to the University of Texas in Austin. She moved to Austin, joined Central Christian Church and began her studies at UT. Her brother introduced her to Walter White and they participated in Young Adults together at Central Christian Church. She graduated from UT and married Walter in 1951. They moved to George AFB in California, and while there Joye taught high school. They returned to Austin where she worked for the Texas State Teachers Association briefly before becoming a full time mother. Joye returned to teaching in 1965 where she enjoyed teaching third grade for the next 30 years.
She was a member of Central Christian Church for over 66 years where she was Elder Emerita.
A viewing will be held at 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2015 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar. There will be a memorial service at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, at Central Christian Church, 1110 Guadalupe, with Dr. Eric Gates officiating.
