Judy graduated from McAllen High School in 1959 and attended Sam Houston State University. She married the love of her life, Jimmy Lee Archer, in 1961, and happily married for 52 years. In 1966 they moved to Austin. Judy was a stay-at-home Mom to her two children Jodie and Jimmy before beginning a 20-year career with Southwestern Bell.
Judy and Jim loved to take road trips. They started out riding Honda Goldwing Motorcycles, with matching outfits. They later moved up to fifth wheel trailers and eventually a motorhome. They would make friends easily with others on the road and always enjoyed sharing their adventures with family.
Judy enjoyed volunteering and was always willing to lend a hand for those in need. She and a few of her friends formed the “Opti Mrs’” wives club to run the concession stand at Town and Country Optimist Club and helped raise money to make Town and Country successful.
In 2015, Judy moved to Meadowlakes, Texas where she became involved with many organizations including Burnet County Republican Women, National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Highland Lakes Service League.
Judy was blessed with many friends. She had a smile that would light up the room. Judy was never shy about expressing her opinion, whether it was politics or the weather, however, those opinions would be delivered in a good-natured way. Judy was a sports enthusiast. She made it a point to attend her children and grandchildren’s games, and you knew she was there as she would cheer louder than anyone. When she was younger, she was a locally ranked amateur tennis player, and in her later years she took up playing golf where she was always in competition for the senior women’s club championship at Hidden Falls Golf Club. While at Meadowlakes she made many lifelong friends in a very short time. She loved her “Diva” group as though they were family. Her golf outings, Mexican Train, cards and the “Diva” Thursday night dinners were the highlights of her week. But the greatest joy in her life were her children, grandchildren, and great granddaughter. If you knew Judy, you also knew her family. She was a proud Mom and known to her grandchildren as Nanny. Judy lived large and loved hard.
She was a member of The First Methodist Church of Marble Falls.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Jodie Thompson and her husband Emory Powell Thompson of Austin, son, Jimmy Lee Archer, Jr. grandchildren, Taylor Thompson Ohlendorf and her husband Chad Ohlendorf of Dallas, Emory Archer Thompson, and Ashlyn Lee Archer of Austin. Great Granddaughter, Poppy Powell Ohlendorf, and Sister, Jody Ramsey of Canyon Dam, and her beloved French bulldog, Josie.
