Julia Ann Porfirio, known lovingly as MeeMaw by her grandchildren, entered eternal rest on Sunday June 29, 2025 at the age of 76. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Born on August 14, 1948 in Austin, TX, Julia was a 1967 graduate of Austin High School.
Julia will lovingly be remembered by her husband of 45 years, Michael Porfirio; daughters Dolores Conover (Gary), Melissa Beatty (Joe Winn), and Anne Porfirio; grandchildren AJ Beatty (Jamie) and Jaxon Conover; and great-grandchildren Myla Beatty and Tyrann Beatty. Countless cousins, nieces and nephews, each with their own special relationship. Endless friends that were always like an extension of family. It was her mission to make everyone feel special and her love was the foundation of our family.
Her passion for sewing and crocheting became something that brought joy to everyone through her handmade gifts, especially her one-of-a-kind blankets, early on she loved creating look alike outfits for her girls that would match her own. She would also gift hand sewn dresses to an orphanage and blankets to the pet shelters. Having played softball in her earlier years, her love for the sport carried over as she became the biggest cheerleader at her grandkids’ baseball and softball games. She was always ready when Michael wanted to go on a country drive, especially when it led to a new Wal-Mart that she had not visited and for a road trip that got her to the casino slot machines. She enjoyed summer days spent hanging out at the pool with her cousins, always with a glass of her favorite grape Kool-Aid that they always had ready for her. Her greatest joy was a house full of family, especially during the holidays where everyone was welcome at the dinner table to enjoy the massive spread of food she’d spent countless hours preparing.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine “Cata” (Sanchez) Aleman, Tomas Aleman, and Emilio Navarro.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nurse Ali, and the team at St. David’s Hospice & Family Care / Brookdale Hospice Austin for the compassionate care provided. They are also eternally grateful and wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Carmen LaGrone for the love, support and special care she provided to Julia in her final days.
We will miss Julia’s infectious personality and generosity and her impact on those she touched will be felt for generations to come and her spirit will continue to live on. May she rest in peace.
