Katheryn Nelle Rather Henneberger Katheryn Nelle Rather Henneberger of Austin died on July 4, 2008, in Austin, Texas. She was born on August 23, 1921 in Austin to Edmond C. Rather and Ruth Gregory Rather. Katheryn was a resident at The Summit at Westlake Hills upon her death. Katheryn was a third generation Austinite who grew up in Aldridge Place where her father was associated with The University of Texas and Manager of the University Co-op for over 50 years. Many wonderful memories and friendships were formed in Aldridge Place, especially that of her childhood sweetheart, Wayne Henneberger, whom she married on November 7, 1942 at University United Methodist Church in Austin. During their 62 years of marriage, Katheryn and Wayne lived in Austin after being stationed at various locations during his service in World War II. Katheryn enjoyed her many travels with Wayne as Bridge Engineer for the State of Texas and to the many conventions in which he served on various State and National engineering committees. She loved walking over, traveling under and across the many bridges Wayne designed throughout Texas and the United States. They built many houses in the Tarrytown area together, which was one of their favorite passions, and where they raised their two daughters. Katheryn attended Wooldridge Elementary School, University Junior High School, graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1939, and attended The University of Texas at Austin. At Austin High, Katheryn was band drum majorette, class favorite all three years, and Queen. At The University of Texas, Katheryn was a member of Delta Delta Delta, a Bluebonnet Belle, and also a member of the social and service organization, Pzatlx. Katheryn was a member of University United Methodist Church, Texas-Exes Alumni Association and Delta Delta Delta Alumnae, in which she served in all offices of the Austin Alumnae Chapter, as well as nationally as one of five Associate Directors. She particularly enjoyed working with the Panhellenic Council at The University of Texas at Austin. Katheryn was President of the Austin Women's Auxiliary for Texas Society of Professional Engineers. For 48 years she was a member of The Settlement Club and belonged to Gadabout Garden Club, Waltz and Mayfair Dance Clubs, and The Headliners Club. Katheryn was a little lady with a big heart who loved her Austin heritage. Katheryn loved people and through her association with Tri-Delta, formed many friendships all over the country with whom she corresponded until her death. Katheryn's favorite pastime was knitting and sewing and every holiday would find her dachshund's in costumes she created. Katheryn's love for and dedication to her family is her legacy. Katheryn is survived by her daughter, Cindy Henneberger Babel and son-in-law, Don Babel of Austin; her daughter, Kathy Henneberger Tims and son-in-law Lamar Tims, of Dallas; granddaughters, Kaylea Babel Pratt and her husband, Jason Pratt of Austin, Kathlyn Babel Lehner and her husband, Andrew Lehner of Dallas, Shelley Tims Mason and her husband, Stuart Mason of Dallas; great-granddaughter, Adalyn Claire Pratt of Austin; and brother-in-law, Wroe Owens of Austin; and many nieces and nephews.
