Kathy Ann Miller Smith, loving daughter, faithful wife, attentive mother, and generous aunt and friend lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, January 1, 2022. Kathy (aka Buffy, Sassy, Momma) was born in Dallas on September 23, 1956. Her family moved to Austin in 1967 where she attended McCallum and Anderson High Schools and worked in the family construction business.
She married the love of her life, Glen Smith, on August 8, 1981. They established their home in South Austin and started a family-owned business. On April 20, 1985, they welcomed their only son, Casey. Besides working in the family business, Kathy spent most of her time supporting Casey’s endeavors. She always enjoyed cheering for Casey when he was racing. Kathy was close to her mother Doris and took great care in making sure Doris’s last years were the best they could be.
Kathy’s most enduring and outstanding asset was the size of her heart. She made everyone she met feel like the most important person in the world. Her generosity for any celebration whether it was a birthday, a holiday or just an important event, was always thoughtful and unique. She loved to dote on her family and friends. Her eye for fashion and home décor was well respected. She loved finding just the right outfit, the perfect gift as well as just the right finishes to her beautiful homes on Brodie Lane and in Marble Falls. She was blessed to be able to buy a house on Lake Marble Falls. She loved that house! She loved decorating it for her family and sharing it with her friends. She loved visiting wineries, shopping and just relaxing by the lake. She was such an outstanding hostess that everyone looked forward to a celebration in her home. Her final project was decorating Casey’s new house. She took great pride and joy in completing that project.
Bottom line – Kathy leaves a huge hole in the lives of those who knew her. That hole will be so difficult to fill.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Doris Miller, as well as her brother, Al Jr. She is survived by her husband, Glen and her son, Casey. She also leaves her brother, Stan (wife Cathy), her nieces, Cindy Lopez (husband Leo) and Paige Shoberg (husband Matt) and nephews Nick Miller (wife Stephanie) and Doug Miller (and family). She has many cousins and great nephews that will miss her dearly.
Kathy’s final days were spent at Christopher House in Austin. This was just what she needed, and they treated her with compassion and respect. If interested, donations can be made to Christopher House at https://www.hospiceaustin.org/our-services/christopher-house/.
