

Lamonte Y. Ross, 74, died on June 15, 2016 in Austin, Texas. Lamonte was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama where she grew to love horses and dogs. She was an avid reader, belonging to several book clubs, and worked part time in a used book store. She loved to cook and was a member of a cookbook club. She was an active member of Austin's Junior Forum contributing to the annual Christmas affair at Caswell House. She attended Auburn University just long enough to become an avid, lifelong War Eagle. Until she became ill in her last few years, she was always on the go, socializing, welcoming new neighbors, participating in various clubs, and playing bridge. Even after her poor health slowed her down, she would still hold court in her kitchen regaling visitors with tales of her beloved South. Lamonte and Dan had the opportunity to live in Quantico, VA; Camp Pendleton, CA; Huntsville, AL; Cupertino, CA; Winchester, England; and Austin, TX. Lamonte was preceded in death by her son Dan H. Ross, III, and her parents William and Martha Yarbrough. She is survived by her husband Dan H. Ross, Jr.; daughter Tracy Powers and husband Tommy; granddaughters, Lindsey Winick-Powers and husband, Jordan; Allison Powers and fiancé Ryan; brothers Guy McClure and wife, Gwen of Athens, AL; and William (Bubba) Yarbrough and wife, Karen of Bel Air, MD; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 19, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. and Funeral Services will be Monday, June 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hill Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas. Interment will be at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Liberty Hill, Texas.
