Larry Langley Larry Langley passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on November 8, 2007. He was born in Brownwood, Texas on October 19, 1943 to Elnora and Marshall Langley. As a Texas native, he had a great love of the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and spending time at his farm with his family. He attended Texas A & M University, but received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas. As an enthusiastic supporter of collegiate sports, he rarely missed a game and regularly traveled with the Barn Stormers to regional basketball games. Larry was extremely knowledgeable about the Civil War and World War II. He collected military miniatures, which lined the shelves of his law office. His love of music was evidenced by his diverse collection of albums. After graduation from law school, Larry accepted a job as an undercover special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During his career, he was a partner with the law firms of Jackson Walker (formerly Small, Craig and Werkenthin) and Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. He was director of the State Bar of Texas and President of the Travis County Bar. The Austin Bar Association recognized his commitment to the legal community by presenting him the 2004 Professionalism Award, which recognizes extraordinary contributions to the profession. Giving back to the community was one of Larrys passionate callings. He had a great love for public radio and television and served as President and Executive Committee Member of KLRU. Likewise, he served at a national level as a member of the Executive Committee of the Association of Americas Public Television Stations, and he was awarded the David J. Brugger Grassroots Advocacy Award by the Association of Public Television Stations in 2002. Larry was a beloved partner and friend, and throughout the years, he served as a mentor and confidant to many, routinely providing leadership and advice. As a man of faith, he was a member of the Session of Covenant Presbyterian Church and was the official church recruiter. Throughout his illness, his dedication and devotion to his church family, continued to be a priority. Preceding him in death were his sons, William Marshall Langley, Rob Langley, and Ross Langley; also, his parents, Elnora Langley Jacks, Marshall Arlon Langley, and stepfather, Judge Terry Jacks. He is survived by his wife of thirty eight years, Sydney Thompson Langley and his daughters Kendall Evan Langley and Lindsey Langley Sartain and her husband, Russell Tarkington Sartain. Grandchildren include Sydney, Ellis, and Langley Sartain. Larry Langley was an extraordinary person. Whether one knew him as a loving family member, a loyal friend, or someone he reached out to with kindness, we will miss his unique sense of humor, larger than life personality, and his strong, independent spirit. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to the William Marshall Langley Memorial Scholarship, The Ex-Students Association of the University of Texas, Attention: Eleanor Moore, P.O. Box 7278, Austin, TX 78713. A Memorial Service will be held 3:00 pm on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Covenant Presbyterian Church on 3003 Northland Drive. Obituary and guestbook online at wcfish.com
