

Wayne Ashby, age 65, died peacefully at his home in Austin, Texas on Saturday, December 10, 2005. He was born on March 1, 1940 in Tyler, Texas to Dorothy Jean and Connor Cleveland Ashby. The eldest of three children, he was preceded in death by his parents. Wayne began his education at Ventura Junior College, California where he was a member of the National Junior College championship golf team. He later earned his B.S. and Masters Degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas-Austin. Professionally, he retired from the Applied Research Laboratories, a division of the University of Texas, having led numerous military research projects. He also served over twenty years on the Board of Directors of Austin based, National Instruments. After retirement, he achieved his dream of owning a working ranch in Colorado. At his ranch, he pursued his passions of raising horses and his love for the old west. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, sailing, raising horses and spending time with his puppies. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jane Ashby; his two sons, Michael and Gary; his daughters-in-law, Lisa and Stephanie; his grandchildren, Grant, Lindsay, Elisabeth, and Jessica; his sister, Barbara Ashby, Ventura, CA; his brother, John Ashby, Santa Paula, CA; and his uncles Robert Ashby and wife, Jenna, Conroe, TX; Paul Lea and wife Patsy, New Orleans, LA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to further acknowledge his cousins, Vicki Gibson, Dallas, TX and Ronny Rhone and wife, Barbara, Austin, TX for their love and support. Additionally, the family would like to extend special thanks to life long friends, Web Pierson and wife, Paula, Weatherford, TX, Doug Mierl and wife Dee, Austin, TX, Cary Tobleman and husband Toby, Austin, TX, Jacqueline Mabillard, Grand Lake, CO, and Camille Gillioz, Grand Lake, CO. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Austin Meals on Wheels, or the American Lung Association.
