

Leona Kilgore, age 87, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2007. She was born in Wimberley, Texas to John and Mary Farris on February 7, 1920. She was one of twelve children, three girls and nine boys. She was preceded in death by her husband, L.M. Kilgore; her two sisters and nine brothers. After finishing high school she moved to Austin and attended Nixon Clay Business School. She met L.M. Kilgore and they were married in 1941. After the war was over they returned to Austin. She was employed by the Teacher Retirement System for 29 years. Leona never forgot her friends at the Teacher Retirement System. Just as she wants all her nieces and nephews to know she loved them very much, so it is with her friends. Her love also was given and shared with her dear church family at Kinney Avenue Baptist Church. Her faith was a strong part of her life and she lived it out daily in the lives of so many. She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Steinhardt and two grandsons, Larry and Chris, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kinney Avenue Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm 8:00 pm on Monday, August 27, 2007 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Chapel with Pastor Gordon Bergstrom officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Oaks Cemetery.
