

Louis spent his youth in Brownsville and many summers in Port Isabel at the family business. He attended St. Joseph's Academy and Texas Southmost College. Louis joined the Air Force on May 26, 1951. While stationed at Randolph Air Force Base, in San Antonio, he met and married his wife, Shirley.
After the service they returned to Brownsville where he worked for the City of Brownsville and Texas Employment Commission, now Texas Workforce Commission. While working for the state he transferred several times before ending his career in Austin in 1992. Louis was an avid deer hunter, but enjoyed family gatherings, that included his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and many cousins, the most.
Shirley preceded him in death in 1991. He is survived by his four children, Kathy Champion Diehl, Tom (Wendy), Terry, and Freddy (Priscilla) Champion. His grandchildren, Justin (Amy) and Brett (Jenilee) Champion; Aaron (Lauren) and Sean Turbeville; Jennifer Hamlin and Candace Spencer. Great-grandchildren, Miles Luke, Augustus Cole, Mavi Pearl and Hattie Lou Champion and Mason and Mackenzie White; Avery, Trae, Scarlett Haven and Emma Turbeville; Jaxon, Layton and Skylar Turbeville, Cali Letney; Knox and Beckett Spencer.
