Our beloved Manuel Salas Rodriguez Jr. (“Honey, Babe, Poppo, Pop’s, and Dad”) Age 62, Resident of Austin, Texas was called by our Heavenly Father on Monday, November 22, 2021.
Manuel was preceded in death by his Mother, Anita Flores, His Father, Manuel Rodriguez Sr. Father in Law, Modesto “Moe” Sanchez & Mother in Law, Patsy Sanchez.
He is survived by the loves of his life, Wife of 40 years, Lia Rodriguez, Son’s, Manuel Moe & Isaac Rodriguez, Granddaughters, Lola, Luciana & Lainey Rodriguez, Brother Steve Rodriguez, Sisters Joanna Castro & Sandee Perez, and numerous other family members.
Poppo was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He lived for his family. He loved spending time with his wife on their road trips to try new restaurants or just sitting outside on their back patio sharing about their day and taking in God’s beauty.
Poppo had a passion for classic cars which he shared and passed on to his 2 boys. He made sure to spend all the time he could with his sons, whether that was taking them to their sporting events or spending hours on the golf course daily. He cherished that time with his boys but it was also known that he loved the time outdoors in nature. He loved God’s beauty and made sure to take it in on his daily 5 -10 mile walks around Town Lake. He really appreciated the many blessings he knew he had, especially his 3 granddaughters. He looked forward to spending time with them whenever he could so, most days, he would wake up early so he could be the one to take all 3 grandkids to school. He had a long list of cartoon recordings on his TV because he made sure to record the girls’ favorite cartoon shows so they could watch them together. He is even responsible for his oldest granddaughter’s love of UFC. They made sure to watch every big fight together. Poppo worked for the State in TXDOT division for 30 years.
Poppo had a strong Christian faith and belief. He made sure to share that strong Christian love by his acts of kindness and selflessness. He especially loved the time at Christmas when he and his family would gather around to make & deliver bags of food and presents for the homeless. It’s a tradition he wanted to share with his family because of the importance of helping others.
Along with being a daily example of selflessness, Poppo also had a love of all creatures and animals. He made sure to treat our house pets like people. Making sure they had the best of foods and preparing their food “just right” because they liked it a certain way. Not only did he love our house pets but he also loved the wild animals that live around our home. He set up countless bird feeders, threw out lots of deer feed and even took care of some wild rabbits who created a nest under his storage room. He only knew how to give, that was him.
He is a blessing to this family. We thank God for blessing us with such a caring Poppo who shared so much love with us and the world. We will continue to spread his love just as he shared it with us.
