Margie Jackson, of Austin, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2003. She enjoyed the many caring people she befriended in the military with her service at Camp Mabry, and during the years she lived in Louisiana. Along with being a dedicated wife and loving mother and grandmother, Margie was a talented artist. She particularly enjoyed clay sculpting and was able to share her creations at exhibits and with admiring friends. When her children were young, she loved ballroom dancing, sewing, painting and other crafts. One of her greatest loves was being a part of the choir at Covenant Presbyterian Church. The many choir members became a second family to her and she spoke of them fondly and often. Those who had the great honor of knowing Margie were the fortunate benefactors of her always-present love and friendship. She rarely thought of herself before giving all her strength and support to her friends and the people around her. Even during the years she endured chemotherapy for breast cancer she would rally the spirits of the patients around her in the hope of keeping a smile on their faces. Margie was a Christian whose faith in God fed her love for her husband and kept her strong through the hardships of others and her own. She is survived by her husband, Gene Jackson; daughters, Jeanne Roberts and husband Derek and Karla Melde and husband Leon; grandchildren, Amy Baker and husband Paul, Sarah and David Roberts, Jon Melde, and Sammi and David Freehill; great-grandchildren, Jake, Shelby, Justin and Jeremy Freehill; brother, Bill Brady and wife, Jerry and family; the family of her sister, Faye Holloway; and sister-in-law, Betty Foster. Knowing Margies love for helping others in need, in lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to any foundation supporting the prevention of breast cancer or to the Sandy Harbor Volunteer Fire Department. Memorial Services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2003, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Pastor Jim Singleton as officiant.
