Marie Speir Gay

Born in Elgin, Texas July 1, 1921, Marie Gay, was a resident of Austin for her lifetime until 2008 when her daughter moved back to Texas to care for her. The ladies selected a home in Sun City (Georgetown) where they both enjoyed daily wild life viewing from their breakfast table. Marie entered into the Kingdom of her beloved Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 17, 2015.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents Seaborn Buford and Veritas Geneva Speir and siblings Weldon Lee Speir, Lucille Phillips and Buford Ray (B.R.) Speir. She married Major Sobey Franklin Allen a pilot in the USAAF in 1940. Their daughter Barbara Allen was born in 1941. Major Allen died in the crash of the bomber he was piloting on a training mission in 1943. In 1946 she married Earnest Kaigler Gay also a WWII veteran in the USAAF. Marie often described E.K. as "the love of her life". E.K. passed into The Kingdom in 1979.

Marie grew up in the Hyde Park area of Austin where she attended Baker School and graduated from Austin High School in 1938.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Barbara Allen of Sun City, Texas, nephews Keith Phillips of Georgetown, Texas, Lee Speir of Wimberley, Texas, Kim Speir of Cedar Park, Texas, Ray Speir of Corinth, Texas and nieces Patsy Bannister of Gautier, Mississippi and Cathy Kallman of Leander, Texas. She is also survived by ten grand nephews and nieces and seventeen great grand nephews and nieces.

Possessing a wonderful sense of humor she always had a sparkle in her eyes. She enjoyed and loved greatly all of her nephews and nieces often taking delight in chasing them around to give lots of hugs and kisses. The game of chase always ended with the sounds of happy laughter and giggles from the children. Marie was a creative person who loved collecting antiques.

Marie was a committed Christian and an ardent student of the Bible. Marie was a long time member of Hyde Park Baptist Church.

Services will be conducted at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 10:00 am with visitation beginning at 9:00 am. Pastor Graham Allen will be officiating. Graveside ceremonies will be at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas.

Pall bearers will be Gary Kallman, Marcus Kallman, Caleb Kallman, Garison Kallman, Masen Speir and Brandon Speir. Honorary pall bearers are Keith Phillips, Ray Speir, Lee Speir and Kim Speir.
