

Marilyn "Gale" Phipps, of Manchaca, TX died on April 19, 2016, after a long, courageous battle fighting pancreatic cancer. Gale was born in Monett, Missouri on November 25, 1951. She was the daughter of Curtis and Maxine Phipps. She moved to Texas in 1970 with her family.
Gale had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. She loved to travel and was happiest when planning her next trip. She criss-crossed the United States and also spent time exploring Europe and Canada with friends and family. Her travel habit seemed to be a common thread woven through her other pursuits.
Her love of cooking drew her to attend many of the cooking classes at Central Market where she became friends with members of the staff and visiting chefs from nationally recognized restaurants. She often travelled to the highlighted restaurant afterwards. Gale's family and friends were thrilled to reap the rewards of her culinary interest when she experimented with new recipes.
Gale was an avid reader. She spent hours at the annual Texas Book Fair and many book signings in and around the Austin area. Her love of American history led her to become a member of the historical based Austin Civil War Round Table as well as a member the Smithsonian. Gale attended numerous museum events in Washington DC as well as museum sponsored tours across the country. During Gale's travels, she always found out ahead of time if there was a Volksmarch taking place while she would be in town. She and several friends enjoyed this non-competitive fitness walking that was developed in Europe.
Gale was a Federal employee – working for the United States Treasury for almost 42 years. During her tenure, she worked on many special projects and in many different departments. Her expertise was widely sought after and highly regarded. Aside from the technical aspect of her work, Gale accumulated a large number of good friends.
Gale is survived by her father, Curtis Phipps; her sister, Beverly Marie Phipps; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her mother.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 24, 2016, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm, at Weed-Corley-Fish.
Graveside services will take place on Monday, April 25, 2016, at 2:00 pm at Live Oak Cemetery in Manchaca, TX.
