She was a graduate of Duke University, volunteer coordinator at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, an avid golf and bridge player, and loved to needlepoint.
She is survived by her sister Dorothy Maxwell and husband Robert Maxwell, her three children: Richard Johnson and wife Cheryl Wagner, Tom Johnson and wife Kathleen Hackett, and Pam White and husband Steve White; and her grandchildren, Greg and Helen. She is preceded in death by two brothers, James M. Knowles and author John Knowles.
