Martha Johnson Montague Martha J. Montague was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, October 8, 2003. Born January 31, 1915, in Heber Springs, Arkansas to Julius Waide and Birdie Lane Johnson, Martha spent much of her youth in Blytheville, Arkansas where she committed her life to Jesus and was baptized at the First Baptist Church. She moved to Austin where, after graduating from Austin High School, she worked for a time at the Driskill Hotel. There, by chance, she met the love of her life, Rodney Montague. They were married, May 12th, 1940. Rodney and Martha joined Hyde Park Baptist Church in 1941, where she remained a member until her death. Much of their time together was spent laughing over 42, or traveling the States with their close friends from Hyde Park. Martha served for 30 years as purchasing agent in the Sergeant-at-Arms office of the Senate of the State of Texas. She retired in 1973, with a Senate Resolution of recognition and honor. In retirement she most enjoyed cooking and serving as many family members as would come for holiday gatherings, or most any other occasion....and she could cook! Just ask any of them. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters who died during childhood, her beloved sister, Ione Rapp, her son, William Edward Montague and her husband, Rodney Montague. She is survived by her son, Gilley Rhea Montague, and wife Shannon Montague, grandchildren, Rodney Rhea Montague and Gabriel Reese Montague; daughter-in-law, Linda Jane Montague; granddaughter, Sherry Lin Montague Franklin and her husband, Dr. Scott Franklin, great grandchildren, Jenna Dane Franklin, Jace Daniel Franklin and Joshua David Franklin; cousin, Alvin Lane, Jr. and his wife Jane Lane of Blytheville, AR; nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Special thanks from the entire family to the staff at Golden Age Home in Lockhart. And, a personal thank you and God Bless You to nurses Sylvia Maulone, Carol Lee, and Angie Trevino, for your gift as professional nurses and your personal prayers for my Mom, as well as Dr. Renu Mohandas, Missy, Johnny, Earlee, Janie and the most professional staff at Seton Edgar Davis Hospital, Luling, Texas.
