Martin Diances Beaty, age 94, passed away March 5, 2010. He was born in Pandora, Texas on March 21, 1915 to Ella Cohea and Weber Western Beaty. Martin is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 67 years, Kathryn Myrl Ferguson Beaty, his parents, sister and 3 brothers. Martin graduated from Austin High School in 1933. Soon after construction began in 1937 on the Marshal Ford Dam project (later renamed Mansfield Dam) Martin became a timekeeper employed by Brown & Root at the dam site. It was during this time he met Kathryn Myrl whom he married September 10, 1938. In 1941 Martin began employment with Southwestern Bell Telephone where he retired 38 years later in 1979. Martin and Myrl enjoyed 67 fun-filled years doing just what Myrl told her son, Earl, was the way to approach life, "you must move through life with family and friends" for they spent many Saturday nights on the dance floor of the Dessau and old Skyline dance halls, played 42 with their circle of friends, engaged in games and outings with their grandchildren, and enjoyed sunny days swimming and water skiing on Lake Austin and Lake Travis. Martin was truly one of the last real Austin oldtimers, loyal to family, friends and his chosen career. He was a quiet, gentle sole and will be forever missed for his odd little laugh and sayings, his kindness, and patience. We share so many fond memories of days baiting trot lines, motoring around in his fishing boat fishing, trips to Port Isabel and Port Aransas where he was always willing to help bait up the lines and untangle them as well, the many delicious, smoked turkeys he so patiently tended to rain or shine and, last but not least, his quiet but winning ways in a domino game. Martin is survived by his son, Martin Earl Beaty, daughter, Janet Suzanne Beaty, grandchildren Brooke Beaty, Michelle Taylor (Tim Monday), Travis Taylor (Jacki) and Michael Taylor as well as his six great-great grandchildren Lauren, Kyle, Justin, Ryan and Bryce Taylor and Tristan Monday. Martin is now joining our other special angel, Kathryn Myrl, and together they will watch and guide us always. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, March 11, 2:30 p.m. at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas.
