

Mary Eunice Garrett Craig Mary Eunice Garrett Craig, born to Mary McKinnon and John Lumpkin Garrett in Shongaloo, Louisiana, on April 17, 1913, went to be with our Lord on August 27, 2003 at the age of ninety. She was the sole survivor of sixteen children. She was also predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Preston Davis Craig. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Gayla and George Chapman of Dallas, son and daughter-in-law Gary and Susie Craig of Austin, and son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Pam Craig of Austin; grandchildren, Craig and Dru Chapman of Rye, New York, Cathy Chapman of Dallas, Cris-Ann Maenius of Johnson City, Holly and Chris Stevenson of Harper; Garrett and Tatum Craig of Marble Falls, Corby Craig of Harlingen, Cynthia Craig of Austin, Davis Craig of Austin and Aliece Craig of Austin, Jennifer and Ayman Abdellatif of Cairo, Egypt, and Stephanie Oneal of Phoenix, Arizona, great grand children; Kinnon, Garrett, Cassie, Glory, Michael, Walt, Cal, Guy, Quinn, Phoenix and Safaa. She is survived by sister-in-law Bess Craig of Huntsville, and many nieces and nephews. She was raised in Hayneville, Louisiana, and Harlingen, Texas. After marrying Preston in 1928 they resided in Centerville, Texas until moving to Austin in 1942. She was employed at Lamar Junior High school, Austin High School, and the Superintendents office of the Austin Independent School district. For decades she baked and personally decorated the most beautiful, delicious, and sought after wedding and party cakes in the city of Austin. After retirement in 1976, she and Preston enjoyed traveling, studying genealogy, and helping raise their many grandchildren. She continued her long-time memberships in the University United Methodist Church, Austin Womens Club, Ki-Anns, and Daughters of the American Revolution. She also served as President of the Austin City Council of P.T.A.s, President of the Womans Society of Christian Service, Vice-President of the Austin Womens Club and Regent of the Andrew Carruthers Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The family expresses appreciation to the staff of Westminster Manor Health Care Center and Dr. Nuzhat Ahmed for their caring treatment of both Mary and Preston. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2003 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, 452-8811. A graveside service will be held at Austin Memorial Cemetery at 9:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 30, 2003, and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 30, 2003 at Weed-Corley-Fish.
