

Melva Jean Cain age 72, of Austin, Texas, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at Seton Hospital. Melva Jean was born on April 25, 1940 in Austin, Texas to Melvin and Maybelle Townsley Scott. She attended Travis High School where she was very active in all school functions and a cheerleader. She continued the Rebel spirit by planning the class reunions and meeting with the "old high school graduates," many of whom were lifelong friends whose company she enjoyed until the last weeks of her life. Melva worked briefly at the State Capitol where she met Pat Cain whom she married. Melva and Pat raised three children in the Barton Hills neighborhood community and at First Baptist Church where they were actively involved and enjoyed many close and supportive friendships. Melva was a devoted homemaker and mother while always finding time to help her parents and be involved with extended family members. Later in life she served on the Governor's Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities and on team review visits of state supported living centers.
Preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Maybelle Scott of Austin; ex-husband Pat Cain of Austin; son, Monte Pat Cain of China Spring.
Melva Jean is survived by daughter, April Garner her husband Bill and sons William and Towns of Austin; son, Scott Cain his wife Karen and son Daniel, daughter in law Melissa Cain and daughter Krista Koopmann and son Brett Cain of China Spring. Brother Ronnie Scott and wife Linda of Austin and sister JoKay Lewis and husband Mike of Austin. Nephews Ronnie Scott, his wife Mary and son Micah Morgan and daughter Linan Scott, Randy Scott and his daughters Allyson Scott and Farrah Jewel Scott, and numerous beloved cousins.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue.
