Michael Dawkins

Mike was born in Florence, South Carolina, on December 24, 1946 to Claude Wylie Dawkins and Grace Scoggins Dawkins. After graduating from The University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1968, he began a long career with IBM in Houston, Texas working on NASA Apollo, Skylab and Space Shuttle programs. He held multiple executive positions in IBM’s Federal Systems Division in Houston and Manassas, Virginia before moving to IBM Global Services. He retired from IBM in 2007 after 39 years of service.

Mike moved his family to Austin in 2000. Mike’s greatest passion has always been for his family but he also loved traveling, running, playing golf and watching his Texas Longhorns play football. After completing his degree at UT Austin, Mike maintained his connection to the University of Texas by serving as a life member of the Ex-Students’ Association of the University of Texas and a member of the College of Natural Sciences Advisory Council where he was a co-chair of the Freshman Research Initiative(FRI). He was a recipient of the College of Natural Sciences 2018 Hall of Honor Distinguished Service Award. He also served as a member of the UT Development Board, the President’s Associates, and Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee.

He is survived by his loving wife Nancy Ehrhardt Dawkins; daughter Claire Dennistoun (Chris); son Matthew Dawkins; son Stephen Dawkins (Danika); daughter Katie Bremer (Jacob); grandson Callum Dennistoun; and sister Mary Garwood (Duke).

The funeral for Mike will be Friday, February 20th at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 5455 Bee Caves Road, Westlake Hills, TX 78746 with Visitation at 10 am, Funeral Liturgy at 10:30 am, and reception following in Morris Hall. Graveside procession and service will begin at 12:30pm.

Mike is being cared for by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home Parkcrest.
