A bright smile lit the heavens Tuesday night September 25, 2012 when Mom shared her laughter with the angels in heaven. Millie (Mildred Bertholf Wheeler) was born in Denver October 29, 1921 and spent her early youth in the Laguna Hills area of California. Her family, parents Don and Willie Bertholf (deceased) and brother Donald moved to Harlingen where she graduated from Harlingen High School in 1939. Her yearbook identified her as “Sweet & Sassy” as humor was always a huge part of her life. She kept the staff at the Harlingen Board of Education Business Office in stitches with her jokes and antics for 30 years. When she retired, they hired 3 people to replace her; her work ethic was unmatched. She moved to the Austin area to be near her daughters Mary Malmquist Esslinger (Mark) and Kelly Sullivan-Garcia (Alan). She dearly loved spending time with her granddaughter Erin Garcia and grandson Eric Garcia of Cedar Park, and they brought her great joy. She was always thrilled with visits from her oldest son Tom Malmquist who lives in Auberry, CA. Mom will be missed beyond measure as she joins her sons Gus (Eric), James and John Malmquist in heaven. A celebration of her life will be held Sunday, September 30 at 10:00 AM at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills in Austin. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice Austin who provided the most amazing angels to help take care of Mom.
