Mona was born in November 1971 in Urbana, Illinois to her father Dr. Feng-nan Gary Lin and her mother Bih-ju Peggy Lin. The daughter of a NASA scientist, her family eventually settled in Titusville Florida, where she grew up watching rocket and space shuttle launches from her school’s parking lot. She graduated Valedictorian from Titusville High School in 1989 and attended Harvard University for her undergraduate and medical degrees. Following this, she moved to Palo Alto, California, for a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in Gastroenterology at Stanford University Medical Center.
Her first job after fellowship was in Seattle, Washington, where she met and fell in love with her future husband Dr. Jeff Ridgeway. In time, they relocated to Austin, Texas, where Mona joined Austin Gastroenterology and practiced for 15 years. Mona and Jeff were married in January 2006 and welcomed their daughter, Julia Lin Ridgeway, into the world in December 2008.
Those who knew her were always amazed by her beauty, intelligence, and grace. She was beloved by her patients and respected by her peers in the medical community. She also loved sharing her passion for cooking and eating delicious foods with her family and friends. After her cancer diagnosis in 2010, she discovered a love for travel and created some of her happiest memories with her family on vacations all over the world. But ultimately, her best memories were made just holding her daughter Julia’s hand and showing her around this great big world.
She is preceded in death by her father Gary Lin, and is survived by her husband Jeff, 10-year-old daughter Julia, Mother Peggy Lin, brother Andy Lin, and sister Ellen Miri.
There will be a Rosary/Eulogy from 4:00 to 5:00 pm on Thursday, July 18, 2019 followed by a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday, July 19, 2019 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 4311 Small Drive, Austin.
In lieu of flowers Mona asked for donations to Wonders and Worries of Austin and Camp Kesem, both of which assist children who have parents with cancer.
