

Norma Rosenbluth, 83, of Austin, Texas, died at home on Tuesday, July 6th, 2010. She was born March 16, 1927, raised in Mineola, New York, and lived on Long Island and in Maryland before coming to Austin in 2000. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam Domnitz and Bessie Shapiro.
Norma earned her Bachelor of Arts at Suny New Paltz and her Master of Science in Education at Hofstra University in 1952 and served as a teacher and as a case manager for people with disabilities. Upon retiring from the Federal Government in 1986, Norma began her second career as an Arthritis Aquatics Instructor and Trainer. For the past 10 years she was a valued staff member at Body Business where she found joy in helping others have a better quality of life through aquatic exercise.
Norma enjoyed the water, people, music, opera, theatre and film. She loved to laugh and laughed often with all of her friends and family. She was an active, 20-year member of Beta Sigma Phi, where she was surrounded by supportive sorority sisters, and where she enjoyed many social events and service projects.
Norma is survived by her loving partner, Patrick O'Neill, her best friend for over 30 years; her three wonderful sisters, Helen Blumenthal, Rhoda Weill, and Gloria Taub; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her devoted children, Lauren Volpini and husband Chuck Plitsch, Darrell Rosenbluth, Barri Rosenbluth and husband John Trapp; their father, Henry Rosenbluth; and two grandchildren, Aubrey and Walter Trapp.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home Chapel, Lamar location. Please honor Norma by making a contribution to Hospice Austin.
