Gail was born August 17th, 1951 in San Angelo, TX to Kenneth Gail and Patricia Sue (McDaniel) Murchison and was raised in Menard, TX. Upon graduating from Menard High School in 1969, she married Barry Myrick, of Brady, and moved with him to College Station. While there, she worked in the Admissions Office at Texas A&M University while he earned his degree. Upon Barry’s graduation in 1971, they moved to Austin. She first worked for Jack Fritts at his insurance agency and then later at the Secretary of State in the Department of Community Affairs. For the last 30 years, Gail has served as the bookkeeper at Crockett High School.
Gail was so good at many things including being a talented seamstress, a fantastic cook, and a gifted gardener. She loved her vegetable garden and she cooked, canned, or shared everything that she and Barry produced. She had a keen memory and an excellent sense of humor which allowed her to be a great storyteller. She was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. However, if you only knew three things about Gail, then you knew she loved her hometown of Menard, she was deeply passionate about all things Texas A&M, and she loved her family most of all. Gail was very proud of her deep Texas roots and, as a sixth generation Texan, she was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She and Barry have been the most loyal and avid supporters of Texas A&M Athletics throughout their lives together. When their own two children earned their degrees from A&M, she was the proudest Aggie Mom. Almost every Saturday in the fall, you could find Gail at Kyle Field in College Station or wherever her Aggies may be playing. Gail and her family have many great memories of trips taken across the country to watch A&M play football. This past year, she and Barry went to Omaha to watch the Aggie Baseball team in the College World Series; something Gail had always wanted to do. Above all, Gail’s love for her family trumped everything. She deeply loved her two brothers, Boyd and Lee, and their wives and children. But the greatest love in Gail’s life was her own two children, Richard and Jaime. Everything she did in life was for them and she was truly the most wonderful mother. She will be missed terribly every day.
Gail was preceded in death by her mother, father and her stepfather, F.D. Kothmann.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Barry Alan Myrick; son, Richard Myrick and wife Patti; daughter, Jaime White and husband, Judd. She is also survived by her brothers, Boyd Murchison and wife, Tina; Lee Murchison, and wife, Danette; as well as nieces and nephews.
