Paul Red Childress, born June 14, 1927 in Austin, Texas, to Ben H. and Eula Lee Barnes Childress, died January 21, 2004. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 47 years, Gladys Elmore Childress; his parents; his sister, Eula Mae Bishop; and his nephew, Charles Ferguson. Survivors include his brother, Charles, of Dallas; nieces, Phyllis Thomas and Kendra Heald, of Lockhart, Barbara McMaines, of Bastrop, and Nancy Carr, of Chicago; nephews, David Mehrer, of Lockhart and Stanley Ferguson, of Columbia, SC; and several great and grand nieces and nephews. Paul retired in 1986, after 39 years with Southern Union Gas Company, as corrosion protection supervisor. A kind and gentle man who touched all who met him with his grace and sense of humor, Paul will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 23, 2004, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home, Pastor Jeff Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery, where he and Gladys will be together forever. Serving as Pallbearers will be Bob Oakes, Don Kidd, Everett Paul Thomas, William Mickey Heald, Everett A. Thomas, David Mehrer, Willie Doran and Michael Carr.
