Paula Deanette Horton of Cedar Creek, Texas passed away much too soon on March 31st, 2020 at age 65. Paula was born in Austin, Texas on March 14th, 1955 and was a graduate of Crockett High School. She lived in the Austin/Bastrop area her entire life. Paula was married to the love of her life, Mike Horton on May 11, 1979 and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in May of 2019.

Paula worked for the law firm of Wright and Greenhill for 38 years until her retirement in 2017. Paula chose to help her community by volunteering as a mentor with the Austin and Central Texas Seedling Mentor Program where she formed loving and lasting bonds with her young mentees. More recently she was working as a volunteer with the Bastrop Food Pantry.

Paula enjoyed her many travels in the US and abroad with husband Mike, and she loved sharing stories and pictures of those trips with family and friends. She was especially fond of their time spent at the various Zoos that they were able to visit. She and Mike loved animals, and together they raised and cared for multiple generations of rescued dogs whom they loved and cherished as surrogate members of their own family.

Paula was a loving and generous soul, and has always been supportive of her family, friends and community. She was a dedicated wife, sister, aunt and friend. She never judged us, instead making us feel that we all had value and were worthy of love. She taught us the value of forgiveness. Paula never met a stranger. She demonstrated a sincere kindness and genuine interest toward everyone that she met. She made us feel that she really cared about us, that we were special. Paula will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Paula is preceded in death by her mother, Beverly (Gilstrap) Goldstein; nephew Paul Hovey Jr. (PJ) and niece Jennifer Bailey. She is survived by her husband Mike; father Charles; sister Gaye (Robert); brother Weldon (Mary); mother-in-law Molly; sister-in-laws Joyce (Jimmy), Ruby and Shelly; nephews and nieces, Chris (Lindsay), Nicole (William), Nathalie, Steven (Jericka), Tommy (Megan), Stephanie (Drew), Shawn, Genine (Jason), Michelle (Adam), Wesley (Kristina), Tyler (Magen), Guy, Randy (Polly), Linda, Kevin; Kim (Donna) and many cousins, great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Paula will be held at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, pending the end of “social distancing” orders enacted due to the Covid-19 Virus. May God bless us all.

I started working at the Bastrop Food Pantry almost 2 years ago, and Paula was there to welcome me and make me feel at home. I always looked forward to my Tuesday afternoons at the Pantry, laughing together and just sharing stories from our lives. I still can't believe you're gone. I miss you so much!!

I followed my big sister like any little sister does. I have a life time of memories. We were close enough in age that we loved the same things, 60's and 70's music, bell bottom blue-gene pants, hot pants and mini skirts. We loved our make-up and our black-light, our two black and two white walls with glitter all over them. Summers of walking to the swimming pool and taking a bus down town with our girl-friends. We got older as the time passed, made sure we had lunch every week, talked on the phone every day. Made sure we celebrated each others birthday with a special shopping trip and a standing Christmas shopping day date. Nothing can top what we had as sisters. No doubt, half of my heart is gone, it is with you Paula. How could I ever be me again. I promise the day we see each other again I will then be whole. I love and miss you big sister.

Paula and Mike became special friends 40 years ago and what a wonderful time our friendship grew. We did a number of trips together and meals or boat excursions throughout the years.
Paula was and always will remain deeply in our hearts and our love for Mike continues.
Truly the best of everything we had with them, the memories forever.

Paula and I have been close friends for 65 years her mom, Beverly& my mom Rae where best friends., so I guess the love was passed thrilough generations. Paula taught me how to play most of my childhood games, Red Rover, Moter boat , hop scotch , mother - may - I & later taught me haw to make homemade fudge. These things I will hold in my heart forever. There are not enough words to express what her friendship means to me. My Love forever !Debbie.

I loved looking through the pictures of this sweet lady and Mike, Gaye, and all others. Mike, it appears that “someday” you’ll be able to smile remembering the wonderful trips you took together. The last time I saw Paula was at lunch with Gaye, Lisa, and Pam. We all talked so much that Miss Quiet Paula hardly said a word. Now, I would love to hear her voice — as I know you would. Paula was a caring person. We all will miss her. Sending my condolences to Mike, Gaye, and the rest of the family.

Cousin Paula will be greatly missed. We had some great childhood memories. I wish we could have had more time to make more memories in our senior years.
Life is too short to not live it fully.
