Pauline was born in Del Valle, Texas to Juanita and Nasario Sifuentez on January 15, 1930. She was the youngest of thirteen children and was beloved by her parents and siblings. Her siblings doted on the baby of the family and would often take her to their homes, baseball games, dances and other events or places throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings (and their spouses), and has missed them very much.
She is survived by her daughter, Pricilla Gage (Gene) and son, Ira Williams. She also leaves to mourn her loss six grandsons, four granddaughters, nine great-grandsons, six great granddaughters, one great-great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. Her eldest son, James Calvo, and youngest daughter, Vivian Cavazos, precede her in death.
Pauline loved to travel and was fortunate to do so during her marriage to Air Force Master Sergeant Bill Williams. The family lived in Oklahoma, Colorado, California, North Dakota, Oregon, Wisconsin, Alaska and Okinawa, Japan before returning home to Texas. Once settled back in Austin, she enjoyed vacations to Colorado with Ira and Viv to visit her friends Maryland and Val, the Northeast coast with Pricilla and Gene, visiting her friend Jean in New Mexico, Chicago to visit her grandson and his family, and a trip to Germany when Ira and his family were stationed there.
During the family’s time in Okinawa, Pauline played on a basketball team and was also a member of a bowling team. Throughout the years all of the family carried on this tradition and participated in bowling leagues wherever they were stationed, and later at Bowlarama on South Lamar in Austin.
As a homemaker, Pauline created a loving home in which to raise her children. She sewed clothing for Pris, Viv, and their dolls. She made the best fried chicken, German chocolate cake, and chocolate chip cookies. She also attended Ira’s sports practices and games, and school programs for all of her children throughout the years. This loving home was again extended to her youngest daughter, Vivian, and her grandson, Tomas, when Vivian was widowed.
Fun and laughter were a daily part of life for Pauline, whether dancing around the house, enjoying a “little toddy for the body,” going to the movies, cooking meals with family, or just sitting around the table or at favorite restaurants. She had a great sense of humor and it came out when least expected. She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns. She loved to watch them and tried not to miss any games. This prompted Pris to avoid visiting her on Sundays when she was watching any and all sports or risk being ignored.
Pauline earned her GED later in life and her family was so proud of her. She had a 25+ year career with Eckerds/CVS, first as a clerk, and later as a pharmacy tech. She made many lifelong friends among her coworkers there and at Matt’s El Rancho where she was a hostess.
She loved her family unconditionally and was happy spending birthdays, holidays, special occasions, traveling or just visiting with them. She was a great role model, strong, stubborn, independent, a hard worker and always put others before herself. We will miss her beautiful smiles, great hugs, love, and infectious laughter. Her shoulder was always available to cry on and her ear to listen.
Rest In Peace Mother, what a glorious reunion you must be having with your family, James, and Viv. We love you and will miss you until we are reunited.
Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons Brent Dodson, Jim Calvo, Marc Calvo, Peter Williams, Aaron Williams and Tomas Cavazos and great-grandson, Dayson Dodson. Her ashes will be interred at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
