

Pete Ramirez Casarez, age 85, of Austin passed away on Friday, April 16, 2010. He was born on September 9, 1924 to Abram and Eufemia Casarez in Port Huron, Michigan. Pete served in World War II, the South Pacific and Guam, as a Navy Seabee. Later in life he became a part of an organization of Seabees who served in World War II. He always maintained his love for his country and love of service. He was a founding member of the Catholic War Veterans Organization, Post 742 and 1805, in Austin and served faithfully for 63 years. He was awarded the national, highest recognition the St. Sebastian Award in 2007. He also was a member of the American Legion and a member of San Jose Catholic Church. Everyone remembers Pete's smiles and enthusiasm when participating in Veteran's Day parades and ceremonies. Pete worked in the optical profession for many years and was fortunate to work side by side with his brothers, Frank and Eugene Casarez. He loved to dance, golf and most of all he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene Casarez, Frank Casarez; sister, Mary Saldana; and son, Martin Casarez. Pete is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa; sons, Pete Jr. (spouse Tracee), Carlos (spouse, Mary Ann); daughters, Veronica Casarez, Herlinda Quintana (husband, Oscar); nine grandchildren, Kim Terrill, Christa Achilles, Carlee Rooney, Peter Casarez, Matthew Empante, Roberto Empante, Carlos Brugh, Gianna Quintana, Alicia Quintana; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Frutoso Casarez, Roberto Casarez; and sister, Manuela Sanchez. The family would like to give special thanks to AseraCare Hospice staff, Davita Milagro staff, and caregivers, LaLa and Sylvia. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 18, 2010 at San Jose Catholic Church. Mass of the Catholic burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, April 19, 2010 at San Jose Catholic Church with Reverend Tom Frank officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
