Peter Leonard Attwell

Peter Leonard Attwell passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 1, 2008, after a courageous nine-year battle with cancer. He was born on January 29, 1960 in Houston, Texas, the only son of Leonard and Tempe Attwell. He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1978. He worked at St. James House in Baytown, Texas and married his soul mate Donna De Vries in 1993. Peter continued his education at the University of Houston Clear Lake completing his MBA/MHA in Business and Healthcare in 2000. That same year, Peter and Donna, built their dream home in Austin, Texas and moved their family into it. Recently, Peter was enrolled as a student in the Episcopal chaplaincy program in Austin. A spiritual and gentle man, Peter enjoyed fishing, singing and music of all kinds, swimming, good food, carpentry, reading, learning and loving. He led a rich life with many friends from St. John the Divine Episcopal Church in Houston, Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown, St. Michaels Episcopal in Austin, his cancer support group, and classmates at Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest. Peter was preceded in death by his mother Tempe Houze Attwell and father Leonard Lycurgus Attwell. He is survived by his wife, Donna Attwell; stepmom, Moira Wiley Attwell; sisters, Mary Anne Hartye, Tempe Elizabeth (Betsy) Broekemeier, Barbara Attwell Ritter; stepbrothers, Larry and Scott McKafee; children, Bekah, Sean, Caleb; and a large extended family. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, April 7 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1500 North Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, Texas 78746.
