

Phyllis Deniece Hoot Mook, 71, of Austin, TX passed away peacefully at home with her family present, after a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on April 7, 1937, Phyllis was a graduate of Will Rogers High School (1955) and later attended the University of Tulsa. As a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, Phyllis graduated with a BS in Business Administration, class of 1959. Phyllis met Arnold Willis Mook in college and they were later married Aug. 6, 1960. Sons were born in 1961 and 1963. The family was transferred to Houston in 1964. During her time in Houston, Phyllis worked with crafts and was a substitute teacher. Phyllis later went on to become a florist and a Master Gardener. She was a member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Houston. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Arnold Willis Mook who died in 2000. Phyllis moved to Austin in 2005 to live in the hill country and be closer to family. She was active in the Austin Newcomers and volunteered at the Zilker Botannical Gardens. She was preceeded in death by parents Helen and Harry Hoot. Survived by two sons; Ronald Kevin Mook and Anthony Arnold Mook, daughters in law, Phyllis B. Mook and Teresa F. Mook, grandsons; Joshua Mook, Caleb Mook, granddaughters; Julia Mook, Grace Mook, Darya Mook and Kayla Mook and a sister, Susan Hoot Hodgson. A memorial gathering will be held at Zilker Botannical Gardens, 2220 Barton Springs Road, Austin, Texas on Monday Oct. 6, 2008, from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) or The Austin Area Garden Center (http://www.zilkergarden.org).
