Rachel Lee Quattlebaum Cook, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born in Joy, Arkansas, to James William and Martha Elizabeth Wright Quattlebaum on December 29, 1930, and peacefully entered eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 7, 2022.
Preceding her in death were seven brothers, Marion, Connie, Bonnie, Clois, Denver, Doyle, and Ivan Quattlebaum, and two sisters, Lorene Cole and Verna Roberson. Rachel is survived by her loving husband, William H. Cook, her children, Camille Cook Minor and husband, Rod; William Craig Cook and wife, Ann; and Pamela Cook Moorhead and husband, Jim; ten grandchildren: Jordan Elliot Minor and wife Kristi, Meredith Minor Redfearn and husband Robert, Austin Taylor Minor and wife Lauren, Molly Moorhead Nguyen and husband Nam, Jake Moorhead, Maddy Moorhead Brock and husband Davis, Natalee Cook Moore and husband Chris, Emilee Cook Minnich and husband Cole, Hannah Cook, and Jenny Cook; and ten great-grandchildren: Caroline and Annabelle Minor; Nora, Hadley, Nolan, Nash, and Ford Minor; Moses and Joshua Nguyen; and Luke Minnich. Rachel is also survived by her half-sisters Kathy Kaiser, Judy Hoofman, Terry Simon, and her half-brothers Allen Quattlebaum and Tom Quattlebaum, her step-sister Ollie Bell, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved so much.
Rachel graduated from Searcy High School in Searcy, Arkansas, and Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She wrote for the Arkansas Baptist Paper until she went to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. She began dating Bill Cook, and they were married at First Baptist Church Searcy and celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in August of this year. Rachel taught business and typing classes at Mansfield High School while Bill worked on his doctorate.
Rachel loved being a pastor’s wife, serving alongside her husband in churches in Gatesville, Texas; Harrison, Arkansas; Levelland, Texas; and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. They then moved back to Arkansas when Dr. Cook became a vice president at Ouachita Baptist University. They also served in many interim pastorates in Arkansas and Oklahoma. They were able to travel together to the Holy Land twice, to South Africa, L’Abrie, Switzerland, and other countries.
Everywhere she went, Rachel made friends. And the way she spoke of her family, friends, and neighbors, one would think that each one was her very favorite. She was a person of deep joy and love for others, which came about not because her life was easy, because she had suffered some hard tragedies, but rather because she trusted with all of her heart in her Lord Jesus, and she believed that He would be with her always. She loved to share Jesus with others, and also to give to opportunities for people around the world to hear about Him. She served as Arkansas State Woman’s Missionary Union Director. Prayer was also very important to her, and she started a prayer ministry with her friends in Tulsa.
A memorial service honoring Rachel Cook’s life will be held at South Tulsa Baptist Church on November 11, 2022, at 2 p.m.
