Ralph W. Mitchell Jr. “Mitch” of Austin, Texas passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at the age of 92. He was born on May 4, 1933 in Anchorage, Alaska, but relocated to Waco, Texas where he grew up.
He worked as an Air Traffic Controller in the Air Force before retiring after 21 years of service. He then went on to work at Sears as an Appliance Technician for another 20+ until he retired again.
He enjoyed playing his keyboard for different audiences, including nursing homes. He also enjoyed coaching his grandkids’ soccer team, traveling around Europe, camping in their RV, and doing miscellaneous crafts.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Vauna Jean Mitchell, his mother, Goldie Kunkel, and his grandson, Devon Mitchell.
He is survived by his children, Robert “Bob” Mitchell, Kimberly Mitchell, David Mitchell, 5 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
A small graveside service with full military honors will be held at 12 noon on Monday, September 29, 2025 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home at 6300 West William Cannon Dr, Austin, Texas 78749.
