Rebecca (Becky) S. Gertgen of Austin, Texas passed away on January 23, 2025, at the age of 75. She born on November 10, 1949, in Borger, Texas. As part of a military family, she grew up all over the US.
Becky graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and was a lifelong fan of Texas Longhorn football. She stayed and made her life in Austin.
After working at the IRS for 35 years, and making many lifelong friends there, she was lucky to retire early. In her retirement, she spent as much time as possible staying up late reading books, crafting, and traveling. Becky loved her crafts, which included quilting, knitting, crocheting, cross stitch, and anything else having to do with fabric and yarn. At home, you could either find her in her corner chair with a cold Topo Chico and a pack of gummy bears, or up in her craft room ‘hard’ at work. Her home away from home was either in a travel trailer touring the country, or at her condo in Angel Fire, New Mexico. She adored spending time with her family and friends. Most of all, she loved spoiling her grandchildren. Becky was the quintessential grandmother, adopting many of her children’s and grandchildren’s friends and treating them as her own.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Dorothy and Merle Scoggins.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Gertgen and children Joshua (Vanessa), Michael (Samee), Cody (Betsy), and Shannon (Bryan). Becky is also survived by her grandchildren Zoe, Gwen, Natalee, Mabel, Madelyn (Paul), Alec, and Analise, and her great-granddaughter Zelie. She is also survived by her sisters, Diana Burnett (George) and Dedra Billings.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Chapel of the Hills in Austin, Texas on April 19th at 1:00 pm.
