Richard was born on October 7, 1949, in Baytown, Texas where he grew up. It was also in Baytown where he met Deborah Massey, whom he later married in 1975. The couple settled in Austin, Texas where they raised their 3 children.
Richard loved supporting Duke Men’s Basketball, playing golf, and had many other interests during his lifetime.
Richard was preceded in death by Father Leon, Mother Lois, and brothers Bruce and Stacy. He is survived by his wife Deborah Chase, son Bryan Chase and wife Tina, son Jeremy Chase and partner Wendee, daughter Tara Chase and boyfriend Ray Keeler, and brother Jeffery Chase and wife Daphne. He was also blessed with 3 grandchildren, Blake Chase, Brenna Chase, and Grayson Chase.
With the help of the AA program and all his friends he found thru the AA program, Richard was able to achieve and maintain sobriety for 23 years. During this time, he made numerous friends while fully participating in the program. The family would like to send an extra special Thank You to Jeff Grymkoski.
We would also like to extend another Thank You to all the doctors and nurses at Texas Oncology South, St. David’s Hospital South, and Hospice Austin.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Richard’s name to be made to the following charities: Wounded Warrior Project; ASPCA; and Defenders of the Wildlife.
A Celebration of Life for Richard will take place on Saturday, June 18 at 10:30 AM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749.
