Richard John Kocurek passed away on April 17, 2026. He was born on April 6, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, to Millie Matcek and Louis Joe Kocurek, Sr. He was raised with deep roots in faith and education, attending Central Catholic High School and Georgetown Preparatory School before pursuing studies at the University of Notre Dame. He earned his BBA in Finance and Accounting from the University of Texas in 1962, where he was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi and Beta Alpha Psi.
After graduation, he answered the call to serve, proudly wearing the uniform as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps from 1963 to 1965. He returned to UT to earn his master’s degree and became a CPA in 1966 — beginning a distinguished professional life built on discipline, intellect, and integrity.
Richard began his professional career at Rauscher Pierce Securities as an associate broker. He went on to serve on the Board of Directors for First State Bank and Texas Instruments. He also shared his expertise as a guest instructor at the University of Texas, teaching a course on understanding the stock market. An entrepreneur at heart, Richard owned several businesses in the Austin area. Throughout his ventures, his work as a CPA remained a constant foundation.
Few things brought Richard more joy than a good hunt, a fishing line in the water, time spent at the lake or in the Colorado mountains, and exploring the far corners of the world. In 2007, he found his perfect partner in Carol Ann Isbell, who lovingly remained by his side until the end.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Louis Joe Kocurek, Jr., and David Kocurek.
He leaves behind a family he cherished. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Ann Isbell; his siblings, Tommy Kocurek (Susie) and Mary Ann Kocurek; and his four children, Jeannie Kocurek Hilsabeck (Guy), Richard Kocurek, Scott Kocurek (Michelle), and Karen Kocurek Lindner (Edward). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Kristin Hilsabeck Swanson (Charles); Kathryn Hilsabeck Ricks (Michael); Alexander Kocurek (Rachel) and their son, Asher; Wesley Kocurek; Zachary Kocurek (Alison); Aaron Ferriola (Shelby) and their son, Mason; Caleb Dimas-Ferriola (Madison); and Joshua Lindner.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Austin or the Settlement Home for Children.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX 78731 on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 am.
