Richard Pratt Smith

Memorial services to be held Thursday, September 8th at 2:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. Memorial services also to be held Friday, September 9, 2011 at First Christian Church, 3701 Taft Blvd, Wichita Falls, TX 76308. Wichita Falls visitation will be from 12:30p.m. to 1:30 p.m., with the memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Officiant will be his nephew, Rev. Colby Smith of Muncie, Indiana for both services. Interment to be at a later date in Crestview Memorial Park, Wichita Falls, TX.

Mr. Smith was a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Cornerstone Hospital in Austin, TX. He had also been previously employed by Heart Hospital of Austin and Seton Medical. In addition, Richard had previously served a variety of roles for the San Antonio Express-News newspaper, including Austin bureau chief, reporter, and editor.

Survivors include his nephews Wade Bradley Smith, Erick Bernarr Smith, Rev. Lawrence Colby Smith, and his niece Dena Ruth Martin. He is also survived by cousins Becky Dickson, Danny Browning, Smitty Browning, and David Mikeworth.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
