Richard William Teltow passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of March 1st after a long battle with COPD. His family was there to release him to our lord and savior.
Richard was born on January 25, 1938 to Wilhelm “Bill” and Bertha Teltow of San Angelo, Texas. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Taylor, Texas. After school Richard would run errands and repair any jukeboxes his father had stationed around various locations in Taylor. Following high school, Richard joined the 49th Armored Division of the Texas National Guard and was discharged in 1964. With a strong German-Czech heritage, music was a major influence. He eventually became a member of the Pearl Polka Master band playing the tuba while his father played the drums. They performed at various dances around Taylor and surrounding counties. While attempting to skip out on classes at Nixon-Clay Business College, he met the love of his life – Texie Ann Beaver and was married in 1957 after a short engagement. They settled in Austin, Texas where he started his career with the City of Austin. Richard retired after 30+ years of service.
Following retirement, he and Texie enjoyed fishing and crafts shows where he sold his handmade wooded decorative items. In his spare time, he loved to fire up the big BBQ pit and burn some meat; even entering in to several BBQ competitions bringing home a few trophies. Of course everyone thoroughly enjoyed his culinary skills in the brisket department. At the ripe age of 60 he decide to embark on farming and ranching. This lead us to give him the title of “the General” as he leveraged his military and supervisory careers to “strongly suggest” what was needed to build his dream of a family ranch. Richard had a full and happy life and passed with his family by his side.
Richard was preceded in death by his father Bill Teltow and his mother, Bertha Mikus Teltow.
Richard is survived by his wife of 64 years Texie Ann, his children Kim Worthey and her husband David, David Teltow and his fiancé Danie Blake, Granddaughters Michelle Blackburn and her husband Patrick, and Kailey Teltow, and two great-grandchildren Kimberlin and Kayden Blackburn.
He is also survived by his brother Bill Teltow Jr and his wife Betty along with his brother in-law Elbert Schmidt and many nieces and nephews.
