Robert James Berg

Robert (Bob) was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was born on February 11, 1933 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mary and Ingval Berg. Bob, the youngest of three boys, grew up in Detroit with his brothers Gerald and Eugene LeMire.

Bob attended Annunciation High in Detroit where he graduated in 1951. Shortly after graduation he entered the US Air Force where he proudly served for 7 years. Captain Berg earned his wings and flew both domestically and abroad. After service he became an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Association (FAA). He was a controller in Detroit, Cleveland and Dallas Fort Worth International Airports. He also spent 4 years as an instructor at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was a dedicated employee for 36 years, where he made many lasting friendships. He was known for his strong work ethic, loyalty, sense of humor, and willingness to help others.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, playing dominos and was a member of several men’s groups. He served his parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Arlington, TX as a long time usher and member of the Knights of Columbus.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dolores Kabel Berg and his children Robert Berg Jr. (Wendy), Michael Berg (Rebecca) and Michele Berg Rankin (Randy). He also has four loving grandchildren Natalie Berg, Olivia Berg, Kelsey Berg (Jen) and Brice Berg (Sarah). He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on March 14th at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church 12041 Bittern Hollow, Austin, Tx 78758. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Austin’s Christopher House in Bob’s memory.

Bob will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, loyalty, love for animals and unwavering love for his family. May he rest in peace.
