

Robert C. Harrington - born July 7th, 1925 - died November 7th, 2009. Robert was the last of the 'original' Harrington family. He was born in Bentonville, Ark., the youngest of 5 children to George H. Harrington Sr., and Zula Humphries Harrington. Robert devoted his life to his children, to volunteering with youth, underprivileged youth and adults, and many non profit organizations including: 4- H, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, as well as many fundraisers for local public and private schools. Robert founded the Robert C. Harrington Foundation Camp on Lake Travis to help give under privileged children the opportunity to enjoy the camping experience they may not have otherwise had. In the 1980's, when the Harrington Camp closed, he joined with the Austin Community Foundation to continue to help under privileged youth in such ways as college scholarships, helping with financial assistance for the horses and stables at the Girl Scouts camp, as well as many others he has helped through his foundation. Robert received numerous awards for his charitable activities, and volunteer work, most notably the Austin Board of Realtor's Most Worthy Citizen of the Year award in 1973, joining the ranks of some of Austin's "Who's–Who" list, including: J.J. Jake Pickle, Carol Keaton Rylander-Strayhorn, W.E. "Rooster" Andrews, (and the list goes on)... Robert has inspired a countless many people through his arts and crafts work, and creating home made games. He taught numerous men, women, and children at schools, recreation leaders workshops, as well as the Kiwanis clubs, and 4-H clubs. He not only taught people in the Austin area, he spent many years conducting workshops on basket weaving and teaching how to play his home made games throughout the United States. He also taught basket weaving at the Austin State School, Criss Cole School for the blind and returned many years as a guest instructor to teach at Hyde Park Baptist School, as well as Murchison Middle School, and Doss Elementary. He was always a favorite with children. Robert remained active in the community until 2003, when Alzheimer's and Dementia started to take effect on his daily life. Robert was able to remain at home through the efforts of his wonderful nurses provided by - Nurses Case Management. They kept him comfortable to the very end. Robert is survived: by his son - Charles Robert Harrington and his wife Krystal Wolfe - Harrington (of Austin), and his daughter Hanni Harrington - Wrencher and her husband Vincent E. Wrencher, Sr. He is also survived by his grandchildren - Raven Wrencher, Jakari Wrencher, Cheryl Renae Harrington-Wrencher, and Vincent E. Wrencher Jr. Robert is also survived by many nieces and nephews throughout the United States and Hawaii. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish North Lamar. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish North Lamar. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park. A reception will follow services at 3107 Hemphill Park, 78705 In lieu of flowers, a donation in Robert's memory would be appreciated to the Boy Scouts of America. The family would love to thank the nurses who took excellent care of our dad and kept him comfortable at home.
