

Robert Malan (Bob), 86, of Austin, TX was taken home to be with our Lord and Savior on January 31, 2017. Bob was born on May 2, 1930 in Linn, Missouri. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an electronics trainer. He attended college at the University of Missouri in Kansas City. After 8 years in the Air Force, he began a 42 year career with IBM as an Electrical Engineer. After retiring from IBM in 2001, Bob started a new career working multiple positions at Sam’s Club. After 13 years at Sam’s Club, he retired in 2014. In his spare time, Bob loved to spend time with family and friends, worked on the buildings and grounds at church, genealogy, travel and cutting cedar on his ranch near Henly, TX.
On December 24, 1955 he married Phyllis Whitehead. He was a member of Tarrytown United Methodist Church, Austin for 49 years. Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Phyllis Malan of Austin; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Jackson and Geoffery Jackson of Austin and one son, William Malan of Pflugerville. He is also survived by two sisters, Reta Leohr of Jacksonville, FL and Patricia Baldwin of Orlando, FL, three grandchildren, Christina Winn (and husband Travis) of Pflugerville, Erik Malan of Conroe, Dylan Malan of Pflugerville and two great-grandchildren, Jeremy Lothringer and Danica Winn of Pflugerville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Myrtle Malan, a brother, Bernis Malan and two sisters, Norma Lee Helmig and Ruth Clingerman.
Visitation with the family will be at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752 on Saturday, February 4th, from 3 to 5 pm. Services will be held on Sunday, February 5th, at 1:30 pm at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752 followed by a graveside service at Mahomet Cemetery in Mahomet, TX.
