

Robert Vernon Miller Robert Vernon Miller, age 80, of Austin, Texas died Monday, September 15, 2003. He was born October 14, 1922, in Moline, Illinois to parents, Vernon Alfred Miller and Vila Santee. He is survived by his wife, Margaretnel Rutledge Miller; daughter, Robin and her husband Steve Cobb of Arlington, Texas; son, Randy Miller and his wife Janice of Rockwall, Texas; step-daughter, Betty Linder of Houston, Texas; step-son, Gary Thomas of Austin, Texas; brother, Dan Miller of Austin, Texas and sister, Betty Diehl of Midland, Texas. During his prolific 35-year officiating career, Bob worked six different sports and covered more than 350 baseball games, 750 football games and 1, 800 basketball games. He finished his officiating career in each sport by officiating a Texas University Interscholastic League state championship game. Bob held lifetime memberships in the Southwest Basketball and Football Officials Associations. He has served as president of the Corpus Christi Southwest Officials Association in football and basketball, and was president of the Texas Track and Field Officials Association. He was inducted into the National High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 18th at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Burial to follow at Austin Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gene Linder, Dan Miller, Randy Miller, Bill Farney, Wilson Ashby, and Charles Breithaupt.
