

Robert Lancaster Wagner was born in Seattle, WA. February 21, 1925 and passed away, peacefully Thursday, April 12th. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Patsy. Mr. Wagner was a life long Texan. Known to his many friends as Bob, he leaves behind countless joyful memories to all who knew him. Bob grew up in Houston and graduated from St. Thomas High School. He entered the University of Texas, at Austin in 1941, studying History. When WWII broke out, Bob entered the US Army Air Corps in 1943. Bob served in the 8th Air Force based in England. He was a member of the 445th Bombardment Group and completed 29 missions over Italy, France and Germany. Bob was a right waist gunner on a B-24. During his deployment, he received 4 Air medals and 3 battle stars. Upon his return to the States in late 1944, Bob resumed his studies at UT, receiving a BA and MA in History. He studied under historian Walter Prescott Webb. Later, he became Webbs assistant. In 1954 Bob taught history at Stephen F. Austin State University. In 1963, Bob began writing his book, The Texas Army, a history of the 36th Division in the Italian Campaign. The book was published in 1972. Bob also authored numerous articles in history magazines and wrote book reviews. Bob and Patsy loved to entertain and their door was always open to friends. In later years, Bobs front porch was a favorite place for friends to gather, have a drink, laugh and share stories of the past and talk of future plans. Special acknowledgment is given to Bobs friends Linda Stevens and Kelly Slade who have given him care in recent years. Viewing will be on Saturday, April 14th 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish, 3125 N. Lamar, 5:00 - 7:00pm. Services will be on Sunday April 15th at 2:00pm at Austin Memorial Park. Linda and Kelly thank all of those who celebrated life with Bob.
