

TSGT Rolando Sada, age 65, passed away peacefully from diabetic complications Wed., May 28. He was born Nov. 23, 1942 in San Antonio to parents Arturo and Hermina Rodriguez Sada. Rolando graduated from Fox Technical School, San Antonio in 1959, was Captain of their ROTC program, with perfect attendance. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1960. In 1964, while stationed at Bergstrom AFB, he wooed and married Manuela Hernandez of Austin. His work there included Presidential support. Rolando Jr. was born in 1965. In 1967 they transferred to Elmendorf AFB, Alaska; his working shifts allowed him to sleep through many earthquakes. Victoria Irene was born in 1969; then they transferred to Lackland AFB in San Antonio, where he led the base Honor Guard, was an Assistant Drill Instructor, and traveled on assignment to Korea. Porfiria Anita was born in 1973. In 1977 they transferred to Hellenikon AFB in Athens, Greece, where he was a Security Policeman. In 1981 they transferred to Scott AFB in Illinois, with a temporary assignment to Florida as a translator during the Mariel Boat Lift from Cuba. Retiring as a Technical Sergeant, he moved the family back to Austin, and worked at the LBJ Presidential Library. In 1983 he joined the U.S. Postal Service and was active in the Postal Workers Union until his retirement in 2006. His life of service to his country, his family, and his community remains one of many values this beloved father, devoted grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend will be remembered for, both as a peacemaker and a man of honor. Military Honors: Presidential Unit Citation; Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with Bronze Star; National Defense Service Medal; Four Air Force Longevity Service Ribbons; Air Force Good Conduct Medal; Five Good Conduct Medals; and others. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Susana Cantu, Genevieve Gomez, Frank Sada, Rudy Sada, and Josephine Resendez. Survived by siblings Ernestine Perez, Consuelo Hernandez, Richard Sada, and Robert Sada; wife, Manuela Hernandez Sada; children, Rolando Sada Jr., Victoria Sada, and Porfiria Torres; and his grandchildren: Monica Rene, Nicholas, John Michael, Christian, and Sebastian; and numerous family and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Andres Perez, Dennis Avila II, Liborio Perez II., Victor Gonzales, Marcus Torres and Nicholas Sada-Guerrero. Services: Visitation and viewing to commence at 3:00 pm today, and Rosary to follow at Wilke-Clay-Fish, 2620 S. Congress Avenue, Austin at 7:00 pm. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, June 2, 2008 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Chapel with interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, Austin with full military honors. In lieu of flowers the family wishes those who desire to contribute to the American Diabetes Association and to remember to thank our veterans.
