

Roma Elizabeth Freeman Ball was born on January 3, 1923 to John Albert Freeman and Ada Lowrey Freeman in Keota, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school in Fort Smith, Arkansas, received her Bachelor's Degree from Oklahoma State University and her Masters Degree from Trinity University. She married Bernard L. Ball on May 25, 1951. They served in Air Force assignments in Libya, Guam, Japan and America. They retired to San Antonio. Roma was a teacher and principal for three schools. After retirement, she continued to share her love of education as an a elementary school mentor and reader, and worked with foreign university students in Hyde Park Baptist's "Friendship" program. She retired from education after nearly 20 years and became a real estate agent with Amelia Bullock in Austin, TX. She and Bernie built a house in Glenlake in 1982, where she was active in the Glenlake Garden and Book Clubs. Roma is survived in her immediate family by Bernard, her loving husband of 57 years; her children, David Ball and spouse Peggy, Deby Fitzgerald and spouse Mark, Vicki Sullivan and spouse Jay; eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Roma will be remembered as loving, thoughtful, caring, concerned, graceful, an eternal optimist, fun, adventurous, generous, humorous, an excellent communicator, a fighter (battling cancer twice), and wholly committed to the Lord, family, friends and education. Roma's greatest legacy was her love for Jesus Christ. Anyone who came in contact with her knew that same love immediately. She was active in both the 1st Baptist Church of San Antonio and Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin. She is now in the presence of her Almighty Savior. There will be a celebration of Roma's life Monday, June 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home in Austin. She will then be buried at 2:1 5 p.m. in the Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Roma's name to the American Cancer Society.
