

Roy was born in St. Paul MN, son of Elroy & Lillie (Fischer). He was baptized September 19, 1938 and confirmed in 1952 at Emanual Lutheran Church, Inver Grove Heights, MN. After graduation from Rosemount High School in 1956, he attended St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN and then graduated in 1960 from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis with a Bachelors Degree of Economics. During 1960-1964, he served in the US Army Reserves, Psychological Warfare Unit. He then completed a Master of Divinity Degree from Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Springfield, IL and was ordained in 1967.
Roy served as pastor to Christ Lutheran Church, Austin, TX 1967 – 1989, during which time he also served in many roles with the Texas District Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod including Director of State Convention Arrangements. During this time, the first kitchen for Meals on Wheels program in Austin was started at Christ Lutheran Church. Roy served on many community senior programs and represented senior interests before the Austin City Council and Texas Council on Aging receiving many commendations. He also served as Chair of the Lakeside Senior Activity Center (originally at Lakeside Senior Apartments), Austin Senior Lunch Program and the building committee for the Conley-Guerrero Senior Center in East Austin.
From 1989 until retirement in 2005, Roy worked for the Association & Society Management Inc , Austin, Tx. Serving as Executive Director for 12 non-profit state and national associations. He was active in Kiwanis, Religious Conference Managers Association, Texas Society of Association Executives, International Council of Community Churches and others, and received many awards and recognition for his work with professional non-profit associations.
Throughout Roy’s career, he was a successful speaker, collaborator, mentor and organizer and enjoyed traveling, cooking, baking and a good party. In his retirement, he completed a goal of publishing 2 books:
“When I Am Older, I Will Pray More” and “Prayerthink”.
Roy is survived by children Krista Richter(Randy) of Wimberley, TX, and Jon Bohrer of Austin, TX; grandchildren Brandun Bohrer of San Antonio, TX and Samantha Bohrer of Johnson City, TX; and 2 great grandchildren Jonas and Aurora (Rory) Bohrer, of San Antonio, TX; brother Bill Bohrer (Louise) of Stockholm, WI; and many friends. He is pre-deceased by his son Mark Bohrer.
Memorials are preferred to St. Martin’s Lutheran Church of Austin Endowment Fund, Hospice Austin or a charity of your choice.
Funeral service will be held at 3pm on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 606 West 15th Street, Austin, TX 78701. Visitation will be prior to the service at 2pm at the church.
Interment of ashes to be held privately at a later date at Austin Memorial Park.
