Gretna Anderson, 87, passed from death into eternal life on Thursday, June 23, 2016. She was born Ruby Gretna Irene Owens on October 27, 1928, to Albert M. and Zoe Lee (Key) Owens in Driftwood, Texas. She graduated from Driftwood High School in 1945. She married Chester Anderson of Elroy, Texas on February 6, 1947.
Gretna worked at Internal Revenue Service until the birth of her first child, in 1956. She also worked for Carter Investments and most recently, for Arch Properties, until her retirement two years ago.
Gretna was a member of Hope Bible Fellowship of Round Rock, Texas. She also served on the board of the Driftwood Cemetery Association.
She is survived by her children, Joyce (Mark) Long of Leaf River, Illinois, and Patti Ayres of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, CJ (Austin) Jones of Pflugerville, Texas and Taylor Ayres (Grizzell Gonzalez) of Austin, Texas; great-grandson Keegan Jones of Pflugerville, Texas, to whom she was affectionately known as “GG”; one brother, Calvin (Carolan) Owens of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband, four brothers; Milton Owens, Truitt Owens, Blanton Owens and Ray Owens, and two sisters; Janel Boyd and Rachel Whitney.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, June 29th, at 1:00 p.m. at Cook Walden Funeral Home, located at 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agape Pregnancy Center, Round Rock, Texas and the Driftwood Cemetery Association, Driftwood Texas.
