

Russell “Lucky” Diggs III, born on December 3, 1940, to Russell and Sophronia Diggs, was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, proud veteran, and respected professional who lived a life of family, leadership, and service.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Belinda Diggs, with whom he shared a deep commitment to faith and family. He leaves to cherish his memory four children from earlier in his life: Russell Diggs IV (Karen), Anthony Diggs (Michelle), Kimberley Bell (William), Debbie Lofton (Stanley), as well as Robert Battle (Shonte) and family, whom Russell welcomed through his marriage to Belinda. His beloved grandchildren: Jaqi Diggs, Russell Dahnivon Diggs V, Myles Diggs, Jared Diggs, Gary Shores, Kimani Bell, Jacob Bell, Chandler Hill, and Christopher Hill, all of whom brought him joy and pride. Finally, his ex-wife Shirley Diggs, along with his sister, Josephine Williams, her family, and many other relatives and friends, mourn his passing.
Russell proudly served in the United States Air Force from March 1963 - March 1967, achieving the rank of Airman First Class and serving as a bomb operator on KC-135 aircraft. A graduate of “Old” Anderson High School, he also earned an associate degree in Electronics from Nixon and Clay Business School in 1968, paving the way for a long and successful career. He dedicated 27 years (1968–1995) to International Business Machines (IBM), working in supervisory roles in Austin, TX, and Raleigh, NC.
A man of faith, Russell was known for his warm smile, gentle teasing, sharp sense of humor, and thoughtful calls to make sure you were okay.
Russell, Lucky, Grand Poppa, Paw Paw, and Pop will be remembered for his quiet strength, sharp sense of humor, deep love for his family, and the happiness he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, and the many individuals whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills, located at 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, TX, 78750, United States. The service is scheduled for January 11, 2026, starting at 3:00 pm.
