Russell was born on November 30, 1961. He spent his childhood running around Colorado and Odessa, TX with friends, enjoying the outside, inventing, and making lifelong memories. At the tender age of 15, he met his forever partner and made her his wife on May 21,1983. Russell and Sandy spent almost 38 years navigating the miracle of life and companionship. This love and devotion they committed to each other blessed us all with their two sons, Cody Patrick and Ryan Scott.
As longtime deep rooted residents of Kyle, Texas, they spent their days working in the yard, laughing into the night on the deck with family and friends, trips to Coushatta, family reunions in the Colorado summers, and traveling the country to coach and cheer his boys on as a proud baseball dad. As the boys grew and became integral athletes of the Hays High School football and baseball teams, Russell’s Rebel Pride shined bright from the stands. For decades you could find him in Section E of Shelton Stadium; even these last few years when he returned to those same sacred seats with his season tickets to cheer on his great niece, a Hays Highstepper, as she danced during halftime. He spent his last days smiling, laughing, and making memories with his pride and joy of his life, his new grandson. He spent his career of over 30 years working in the lumber industry. He loved what he did and made many great friends during that time.
Russell is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra Ehrlich Slaughter; son Ryan Slaughter and wife Kasey Goll Slaughter of Buda, TX; grandson, Cy Callan Slaughter; mother, Patty Martin Wilson of Cederedge, CO; brother, John Lee Slaughter of Odessa, TX; sister, Debby Napier McCaslin and husband, Ernie Bonilla of LaMesa, CA; sister, Leah Slaughter Hallman and husband Clint Hallman of Plant City, FL; sister-in-law, Sheri Ehrlich Mack and husband Donald of Kyle, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He is preceded in death by son, Cody Patrick Slaughter; brother, Bobby Elton Napier; father, Richard Lee Slaughter; step-father, John Obid Wilson.
A private graveside service will be held in his honor.
