

Ruth Patton Connor Ruth Connor (Mrs. Paul Connor) died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 in Austin, Texas. She was born in Woodson, Texas on June 30, 1914 to Mr. John H. Patton and Mrs. Celia Brockman Patton. She earned her Bachelors degree from North Texas State University and her Masters degree from the University of Texas. Ruth met her husband, Paul D. Connor, at UT Austin in 1947 when she was a graduate student and he was studying law. They both earned their degrees in 1949 and married shortly afterward. Paul preceded Ruth in death on November 20, 1985 She taught school in Austin for 25 years. Her greatest interests were children and animals. She was nominated for Austins Most Worthy Citizen Award in 1952, she was characterized as one of the unsung heroines who is a real Christian inspiration to everyone with whom she comes in contact one who is modest about the good deeds she performs, and goes quietly about trying to ease the care of others. Ruth received an Award of Merit in 1977 by the Humane Society of Austin and Travis County. The award plaque read To Ruth Connor, for her many good deeds on behalf of animals, and because she is a symbol of the ideals of the Humane Society. Mrs. Connors friends and family wish to extend their appreciation to the healthcare workers at Cornerstone Hospital who assisted in her care over the past several months, and to Family Eldercare for the love and care they gave to Ruth. Any Baby Can extends its appreciation to Ruth for the support she provided to thousands of children with special needs. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel with Reverend Judy Skaggs officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 24, 2004 at Avinger City Cemetery in Avinger, Texas.
